B & C in B.C.

Exploring Alberta for a week was awesome, but we switched up provinces and headed west to British Columbia. And no, we didn’t just pick it because it matches our initials. However, looking back, I think we should’ve received some sort of discount for that.

Coming off of six nights of chilly, elk-stomping camping , we were looking forward to a real hot shower and actual bed. We landed in Vancouver, picked up our rental car and drove the 2.5+ hours up to Whistler. We’ve learned along the way to NOT wait to buy groceries in small resort towns because they totally overcharge the sucka tourists. So we’ve been trying to hit up Safeways along the way, stock up on food and alcohol and be on our non-sucka way.

Whistler is adorable in that “I should be in a ski movie right now” kinda way. Which really made me want to watch Aspen Extreme.

We stayed in an Airbnb for two nights that was in a prime location in Whistler Village, and included underground parking AND a hot tub.

I guess it was so great, that we really decided to just lounge and not do any touristy things. Truth be told, I didn’t even take a picture of Whistler. Travel fail? I don’t think so. We always said that on this year-long journey, we would listen to what our bodies (and minds) were telling us. And the voices in our heads were telling us to lounge on that couch, watch Pirates of the Caribbean and drink at the brewery that was a 3-minute walk away.

Sure, we talked about going to see x, y, z…but didn’t really give a fuck. So we decided to skip it and read in the hot tub…and blog on the balcony instead. Best decision made.

After two nights, we packed up our car and head back to Vancouver. Don’t worry, we stopped and saw Brandywine Waterfall along the way…so we did do something kinda touristy.

Then we dropped off our rental car for a car-free stay in Vancouver.

I’ve always loved Vancouver. And since I’ve been there a whole two times (this trip included) I have the credentials to say that. We rented another Airbnb in the Gastown district. It was great. A modern apartment centrally located…and surrounded by bars and restaurants. Right up our alley.

This stop was exciting as we had friends and family to meet up with. Not that we don’t enjoy just staring into each other’s eyes, but it’s nice to see familiar faces.

After dropping all our shit off at our apartment, we walked to meet up with an old classmate of Craig’s in what used to be Olympic Village. It should come as no shock that it was a brewery. I swear Craig can sniff them out.

Following drinks (and fried pickles),  we met up with Craig’s cousin Natalie. Turns our her apartment is like two blocks from our Airbnb. Lucky. It was also lucky that Natalie’s dad, Ash, and his adorable lady friend, Sue, were also in Vancouver. So we all went out for dinner and drinks. There may have been ice cream involved. Thank god for stretchy pants.

The next day we woke up and decided to walk all over Vancouver. She liked it. We grabbed a coffee and headed into Stanley Park, Vancouver’s cooler version of Central Park…with water.

This park made me fall even more in love with this city. So many paths to get lost on and hummingbirds to see.

We wandered our way to the Tea House. Which in my head, I pictured as a quaint little shack on the water. Turns out, it’s a classy joint that people like to get married at. We had a few drinks, ate a bomb.com salad and then kept on walking. We restrained ourselves from crashing said wedding.

At the end of our 9-mile urban hike, we stopped in at the restaurant  where we casually, kinda/sorta decided to get married almost 3 years ago. We reenacted the moment by engaging in a few rounds of drinks and talking about how we like really like each other and stuff. Puke. If we were really thinking, we would have put a fake blood-diamond-looking ring in a glass of champagne to pretend we just got engaged and score a free drink. Rookies.

Post-reminiscing, we went out to dinner at a place recommended by our Airbnb host. Nuba is a Lebanese restaurant that caters to the veg heads. So delicious. If you’re in Vancouver, go. Or else I’m unfriending you on Facebook (if I haven’t already). After stuffing our face with hummus and halloumi we turned into the elderly again and headed home for bed. But, in our defense, we had a 6:30 am train to Seattle to catch. Otherwise, I’m sure we would’ve raged until a least 10 pm. But thanks B.C. for showing this B & C a good ol’ time.

Where are we roaming to next? Well, I just told you. Pay attention. We’re heading back stateside to the land of Starbucks, reunions, and some adventures in nature along the way.
